A working farm provides healthy outdoor activity for children and brings balance to the activities that take place during the school year. A sense of compassion and responsibility for all living beings is developed when working with animals; tending the land deepens each child’s connection with nature, as well as their appreciation for the importance of earth stewardship.
The experiential agricultural learning that takes place on the fields of Fireplace Farms bring deeper meaning and comprehension to studies in the sciences practiced during the school year. All of the practical lessons learned on a farm prepare children for many diverse tasks in life. Time on the farm also contributes to the development of a well-balanced individual: guiding, nourishing, and educating the whole human being – hands, heart, and mind.
This FUN, HANDS-ON program is led by experienced Waldorf educators. It consists of farm chores such as weeding, planting, harvesting, caring for the chickens and collecting eggs. A hearty, healthy snack and story-telling time are also a part of this afternoon on the farm.
